Joe Micon, LUM executive director, was invited by Ginger Smith to teach a seminar at Purdue for Elementary Education students.
The class is entitled “Teaching Social Studies for Elementary Teachers.”
Joe was excited about this opportunity to have a meaningful discussion with these future educators about how teachers should respond to the needs of the poor, and just as important what they should teach their students about the responsibility as US citizens to respond in their own communities. Joe used his experience at LUM as well as his experience as an Indiana state representative to give his thoughts, advice and strategies from his unique perspective. He also made the session fun and interactive.
